Rabaa Fahmy was protesting on the steps of The Journalists' Syndicate Building Wednesday, as part of the Kifaya movement, a group opposing Egyptian President Hosni Mubarek's National Democratic Party.

Fahmy says she was targeted by mobs organized by Mubarek party officials.

According to The Washington Post, Fahmy and the rest of the protestors saw the mob charge up the stairs. That's when a man with bleached hair, whom she estimates being roughly 18-years-old, pointed at her, inciting numerous others to target her. As riot police looked on and did nothing to help, her clothes were torn, her hair pulled and she was dragged down the stairs.

In an attempt to bring her attacker to justice, Fahmy ran back up the stairs, making her way through the barrage of men at the top. Many were surprised to see her; she quoted one officer as saying, "Didn't we tell you to go home?" Soon after she lunged toward her assailant, she was swallowed up in a sea of bodies. She emerged suffering bruises and a gashed left ankle

Elsewhere, an AP reporter saw 150 Mubarak backers attack Kifaya members, belting them with sticks. Some demonstrators took refuge in a building.

One woman trying to leave the building was pounced upon by Mubarak loyalists who punched her and pummeled her with batons and tore her clothes, according to an AP reporter at the scene. As police looked on, she screamed, then vomited and fainted
